Arcade Machines

Dance Dance Revolution Extreme is the 8th mix game in the Dance Dance Revolution arcade machine series of music video games. The gameplay is very similar to previous Dance Dance Revolution games, where the player must step to the beat by pressing the arrows on the dance pad. Arrows appear on the screen as the music plays, and each arrow corresponds to a foot panel. The player must hit the correct floor panel at the right time. The score is dependent on the players timing, with each step scored either Perfect, Great, Good, Boo, Miss, OK, or NG. DDR Extreme features three different styles of play - Single, Versus and Double. One player can play using one dance pad (Single), two players can play using one dance pad each (Versus), or one player can play using both dance pads (Double). DDR Extreme features 240 songs. Of these songs, 59 are new additions to the DDR franchise, including 23 songs which previously have never featured in any other Bemani game. The game also features 14 songs which are hidden but are able to be unlocked by players. DDR Extreme also features Freeze arrows, which were first introduced in DDRMAX. Freeze arrows are different to regular arrows as instead of just stepping on the arrow, the player needs to step on the arrow for as long as the green arrow line remains on screen. The game features a Nonstop mode, and also a Challenge mode. The Nonstop mode was also present in DDR 3rd Mix and DDR 4th Mix, with players choosing a course of four songs which they must play through to the end. Challenge mode, also referred to as Oni mode, was originally included in DDRMAX2. In this mode, players have to complete a set course of anywhere from five to nine songs. Marvelous timing is used in Challenge Mode, and players have to be perfect with the steps they make.
